A big THANK YOU to all of the members and friends that attended the seminars at the National. The seminars were very well attended. We had in excess of 100 at the Seminars given by Horst Vogel and Pat Hastings. There were not as many at the Grooming Tips and the Conformation Class, but quite a few considering the inclement weather. I want to formally thank the following SBCA Club Members for helping with the Seminars: Horst Vogel, Leslie Bevins, Pam Hathaway, Tom Claus, and Kara Wilson. The seminars were all very informative and it is really great when our members share their vast knowledge with the new and not so new members. I would also like to thank Marguerite Yarnell for handling the registration, so we would know how many to expect. We are attempting to take attendance at the seminars, so the list will be on record with the Recording Secretary. |
Our attention now needs to turn to the 2008 National as far as the Education Seminars are concerned. It takes almost a year to do the planning. I had asked for people to contact me concerning what they would like us to address. All of the suggestions to date have been of a Veterinary Nature. The big concern is bloat. We are planning a seminar on bloat, basic information about gastric torsion. Also, information on how to tube a dog will be given. We may also have bloat kits for sale.
The seminars in 2008 will probably be spread out over the several days of the National. No one will need to sit and listen to seminars any one day. I will mention again, we need to know what you want!
With 2008 fast approaching, I will again mention that we will have requests from All-Breed Kennel Clubs having “Meet the Breed” functions. If a local group of fanciers or a local club would be interested in participating in such an event, please let me know. As we receive requests, I will mention it in this column and contact the local saint clubs in the area. The really important part of this function is that it will help the local club to fulfill a requirement to be able to hold a show in 2009.
Education has the Breed Study CDs for sale and early next year we hope to have a Grooming/Training DVD.
Thank you all for your interest in the Saint Bernard,
Carole Wilson, Members’ Education Chair.
